Redact an image
Cover selected rectangles with solid black pixels before sharing a screenshot or photo.
Method and example
Add a rectangle by dragging over the preview or entering X, Y, width and height. Coordinates refer to source pixels; fractional edges expand outward to cover complete pixels. For X=10, Y=20, width=30, height=40, the block covers columns 10–39 and rows 20–59. Export bakes opaque black blocks into a new flat raster; it contains no source image, hidden layers or original metadata. Inspect the entire output before sharing; there is no automatic detection.
Limits and privacy
One static JPG/PNG/WebP up to 25 MiB, 8192 pixels per side and 32 million pixels. PNG logo: 5 MiB, 4096 pixels per side and 8 million pixels. Animated files are rejected. Preview is reduced; export keeps source dimensions and applies EXIF orientation. Fresh Canvas encoding drops original EXIF/GPS/IPTC/XMP and thumbnails. JPG uses a white background and lossy compression; PNG is recommended for precise redaction. Available encoders and memory depend on your browser. Files, captions and rectangles remain in page memory and are not uploaded, logged or saved to storage.
